Alan Bauck is the Director of the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank (KPRB) Data Coordinating Core where he facilitates the design, development, and maintenance of systems and processes to ensure the quality, consistency, accuracy, and efficient use of data across the KPRB.
Alan’s experience and interest lie in data harmonization, data quality, and systems design. Alan leads efforts to enhance data structures and improve data quality for the Kaiser Permanente Center for Effectiveness and Safety Research Data Coordinating Center. In this role, he leads the development of new data content areas and facilitates data quality improvements across the Kaiser Permanente research centers through a distributed data quality assessment system. In addition, Mr. Bauck co-created the cross-file data standards work group for Health Care Systems Research Network, and was the first for lead of that work group. The work group develops standards to improve data consistency across the 20 member organizations via a common data model (Virtual Data Warehouse). This work includes developing standards to apply national and international coding systems and build concept based, data source independent data structures.
As the first director of Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research Data and Analytics Center (RDAC), Mr. Bauck has developed processes to provide researchers with high-quality data and statistical expertise for both primary and secondary data collection. He has worked to improve data governance through a strengthened data governors group with representatives from CHR leadership and researchers. As RDAC director, he also leads efforts to integrate disparate data from the electronic medical record, claims, state vital statistics, census, and member surveys.
Finally, Mr. Bauck has long research experience designing, implementing, and managing primary data collection systems for multi-center trials. He has considerable experience designing applications and databases for large-scale, complex distributed data systems.
